There is cover to hide behind, but it might as well be made of paper. That is where the time stopping ability comes in, but the Process don’t go down in one hit. I don’t think the enemies were balanced as they constantly gang up on you with no room to breathe. Encouraging you to try new combinations and explore different play styles. Combining Jaunt and Load will instantly trigger an explosion. If you combine Breach and Spark it will fire off three lasers in different directions. As you progress you can combine functions together. Breach fires a laser, Jaunt transports you a few feet, Load essentially releases a land mine and when you attack it an explosion will be set off. One of the features is that you can stop time and plan out your attacks, your attacks are known as Functions. The combat consist of turn based strategy and time planning in an isometric view. Seriously I can’t stress enough how pretty everything is. As you explore your way through the gorgeously looking Cloudbank in its watercolor graphics. I strangely like the fact that there is a story base reason that an RPG hero is voiceless. You soon find out that Red is mute, not by choice, but because her voice has been taken from her. As you enter the next room you encounter “the Process” who will be the minions you have to fight through. Literally, there isn’t even a title screen, you open with the protagonist Red in front of a body impaled by a futuristic looking sword. As soon as you insert the game you are thrown right into the action. So I figure Transistor would be a welcoming entry point to their projects and it left me… disappointed. I’ve been intrigued by Supergiant Games in general as I’ve heard that everything they make is incredible. Transistor is a game that my friends have been telling me is a must play.
